Hrithik Roshan’s upcoming film Super 30 has a new release date and will hit theatres on 12 July, two weeks earlier than originally planned and the same day as Sidharth Malhotra and Parineeti Chopra’s Jabariya Jodi. The decision was made shortly after the makers of Kangana Ranaut-starrer Mental Hai Kya shifted their film’s release date from 21 June to clash with Super 30 on 26 July.

Amidst rumours that postponing the release of Mental Hai Kya was a deliberate request on the part of Kangana Ranaut, the producers, Ekta Kapoor’s Balaji Motion Pictures, issued a statement clarifying that the decision was “purely for the business prospects” and that they would ensure no mud-slinging would arise out of pitting the two films against each other.

Hrithik, however, decided to go ahead an shift the release date of Super 30 anyway saying in a statement on social media that he wished to save it from being “desecrated by yet another media circus”. “I have decided to shift the release date of my film Super 30 in order to save myself from the personal trauma and toxic mental violence this would cause,” he added.

Kangana and Hrithik co-starred in Kites in 2010 and Krrish 3 in 2013, during the shooting of which they were rumoured to have become a couple. The two have shared a frosty relationship since 2016 when the Queen actor referred to Hrithik as her “silly ex” in an interview after being ousted from his film Aashiqui 3.

Mental Hai Kya reunites Rajkummar Rao and Kangana Ranaut. The film has been written by Kanika Dhillon and directed by National award-winner Prakash Kovelamudi.
