Vijayvargiya Says Modi May Contest from WB, Amit Shah Says No

Vijayvargiya said that the people of West Bengal wanted Modi to stand from there and that BJP would take a decision.

On Monday, 22 April, BJP president Amit Shah said that there is no plan for Prime Minister Narendra Modi to contest from West Bengal, in response to a query about the same, reported ANI.

His response came after BJP National General Secretary Kailash Vijayavargiya said in an interview to Aaj Tak that PM Modi could contest the elections from a constituency in West Bengal.

“The people of West Bengal want PM Modi to fight elections from the state once because they are tired of the terror unleashed by Mamata, her syndicate-raj and her constant taunting,” he told Aaj Tak.

Vijayvargiya said that the people of the state are angry that they were not able to vote in panchayat and local body elections and that they want Modi.

“People want Modi to contest from West Bengal and see all the problems up front, perhaps then they will get freedom,” he added.

The people’s demand has reached the prime minister and the party could take a decision on this soon, he said.

On being asked where Modi would fight the elections from, Vijayvargiya said that a decision would be taken by the party on which constituency and whether or not he would stand from West Bengal at all.

However, he said that if the prime minister did contest from West Bengal, he would do so in one of the last two phases of the elections.
