Home Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Amit Shah arrived in Uttar Pradesh on Friday, 12 November, and chaired a meeting with multiple party leaders in Varanasi to brainstorm election strategies.
After having recently set a target of over 300 seats in the 2022 UP Assembly polls, Shah is on a two-day visit to the state. He landed in Varanasi on Friday evening, the parliamentary constituency of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
After landing in Varanasi, Shah went to Banaras Hindu University to pay tribute to Pt Madan Mohan Malviya on his death anniversary.
He then held a meeting with poll managers in Kashi, to check preparedness from Assembly units to 'panna pramukh' level, Times of India reported.
Earlier, BJP Kashi region unit president Mahesh Chand Srivastava was quoted as saying, "The meeting on Friday will be purely on organisational issues related to poll preparations."
Shah will also attend the Akhil Bharatiya Rajbhasha Sammelan in Varanasi on Saturday, Hindustan Times reported. Following which, he is scheduled to hold a rally in Azamgarh, the parliamentary constituency of Samajwadi Party (SP) supremo Akhilesh Yadav.
Amit Shah's visit to UP comes ahead of the upcoming Assembly polls and his work in Varanasi assumes special significance as Modi's constituency is particularly important for the party in the state.
