With the counting of votes for the Goa Assembly elections coming to a close, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won 20 seats in the 40-seat Assembly.

BJP’s Goa in-charge Devendra Fadnavis claimed that MGP, which has won two seats and three independents, has given the party letters of support.

Meanwhile, Congress finished with 11 seats, while AAP managed to win two seats.

Counting of votes for the 40 seats of Goa Assembly will begin at 8 am on Thursday.

Counting for South Goa at Damodar College: Collector

Goa Collector Ruchika Katiyal said that the strong rooms had just been opened in the presence of candidates and observers, as per ANI.

She added that postal ballots would be taken to the counting halls through a dedicated corridor of security personnel. Counting for South Goa will be done at Damodar College.

Congress Confident of Majority: Sources

Congress sources told NDTV that they are confident of a majority in Goa and are "learning from mistakes made in the 2017 election". The party has asked for an appointment with the governor in the afternoon.

Goa Cong Chief Moves SC Against HC Verdict on MLAs who Joined BJP

Goa Congress chief Girish Chodankar has moved the Supreme Court challenging the High Court's judgment dismissing petitions seeking the disqualifications of 10 Congress MLAs who joined the BJP ahead of the Assembly elections, as per ANI.

BJP Will Get Thumping Majority: Fadnavis

BJP's Devendra Fadnavis, also in charge of Goa unit of the party, said that he is "absolutely sure" that the BJP "will get a thumping majority".

Fadnavis told ANI, "I'm absolutely sure that BJP will get good results, people are ready to come with us and with them, we'll get a thumping majority."

Congress, Allies Are United: Shivakumar

Karnataka Congress president DK Shivakumar said on Wednesday, 9 March, that that the party and its allies are united and are confident of forming the government in Goa.

After a party meeting ended in Panaji on Wednesday evening, Shivakumar said, "The entire party and our alliance are united, we're confident to form our govt in Goa. I'm happy to hear that other political parties also want to keep BJP out of power."

BJP To Discuss Results With Candidates at 4 pm  

Goa CM Pramod Sawant said on Wednesday, 9 March, that the BJP had organised a meeting for all candidates, including BJP Goa President Sadanand Tanavade, ex-Maharashtra CM and BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis, and BJP Goa desk in-charge CT Ravi, to discuss the Assembly Election results,as per ANI.

All candidates are called at party headquarters at 4pm on Thursday after the result.

BJP Will Sweep Goa Election, Says Vishwajit Rane

BJP leader Vishwajit Rane on Thursday said that the party would sweep the election.

"People have rejected scamsters, outsiders. They have voted for a party that works for the people of Goa," he said, according to news agency ANI.

When asked if Pramod Sawant would continue as the CM, he said that the party leadership will decide.

As of 2.30 pm, Congress has won three seats and is leading in eight, while BJP has won five seats and is leading in 15 seats.

Utpal Parrikar, independent candidate and son of late Manohar Parrikar lost in Panaji to BJP's Atanasio Monserrate.

BJP's Pramod Sawant Narrowly Wins Sanquelim

Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant won from Sanquelim, by defeating INC’s Dharmesh Saglani by a very narrow margin.

With results being declared for Goa, BJP finishes with wins in 20 seats. Congress ends with 11 seats.

BJP’s Goa in-charge Devendra Fadnavis claimed that MGP, which has won two seats and three independents, has given the party letters of support.

“We've won 20 seats. Two MGP MLAs along with three independents have also lent us support. So now we are 25 MLAs strong. There is a possibility that more candidates will join us. We are certainly forming the government in Goa," Fadnavis said.
