Putting an end to the see-sawing counting, Congress emerged the single largest party inn Madhya Pradesh with 114 seats in its tally. Announcing it’s comeback, the party also tasted victory in Rajasthan by securing 99 seats. Chhattisgarh proved to be a surprise as well for the national party, with Congress winning in over 68 seats and now poised to form government.

Alongside, K Chandrasekhar Rao-led Telangana Rashtra Samithi and Mizo National Front (MNF) emerged the victor in Telangana and Mizoram respectively.

Telangana Elections: Exit Polls Suggest TRS in Top Spot

The main contenders for the maiden election in Telangana are the KCR-led TRS, which was in power for the last four years, and the Congress-led 'Prajakutami' (or 'Grand Alliance'), which included the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) among many others. A total of 60 out of total 119 seats are required to win the elections and form a government in the state, where elections were held on 7 December.

According to some exit polls, the Congress is expected to trail the TRS. Others have predicted a hung Assembly.

Rajasthan Elections: Exit Polls Show Clear Majority for Congress

The fight for the control of the 200-member Assembly is between the Vasundhara Raje-led BJP and the Congress spearheaded by Ashok Gehlot and Sachin Pilot, where elections were held on 7 December. The BJP is fighting anti-incumbency to retain power. However, no party has won after one term in the last 25 years. Of the 200 seats, 100 are required to form government in the state.

Most exit polls have predicted a clear majority for the Congress over the BJP.

Madhya Pradesh Elections: Exit Polls Suggest Tough Tussle For Power Between BJP and Congress

The Shivraj Singh Chouhan-led government is looking to return to power for the fourth time in Madhya Pradesh amid the anti-incumbency wave in the state. Elections were held on 28 November.

Exit polls predict it to be a tough wrestle between the BJP and the Congress.

Chhattisgarh Elections: Exit Polls Predict Close Fight Between Congress and Ruling BJP

A three-way contest is in the offing in Chhattisgarh, between the ruling BJP, Congress and the Mayawati-Ajit Jogi-CPI alliance. The BJP has been ruling the Naxal-affected state for the last 15 years. A total 46 seats of the total 90 must be won to form the government.

The exit polls in Chhattisgarh hinted at a close fight between the BJP and Congress.

Mizoram Elections: Exit Polls Predict MNF Leading in 40-member Assembly; Cong Trailing

The Congress’ main rivals, the Mizo National Front and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), are looking to make inroads into the 40-member Mizoram Assembly, where voting concluded on 28 November.

The state is the last bastion of the Congress in the Northeast, where the party is eyeing a third consecutive term. However, exit polls predict a majority for the MNF in the state, with Congress coming a close second.

Election Results LIVE: BJP and the Opposition Congress' Fight for Resurgence in Chhattisgarh

Several exit polls have predicted a neck-and-neck fight between the big two while some have projected victory for the Rahul Gandhi-led party.

Exit polls have predicted a close race between the BJP and the Congress, though leaders from both parties have routinely claimed their respective victories.

With election trends showing reverses for the BJP, Union minister Shripad Naik Tuesday, 11 December told PTI that the outcome of assembly polls in five states is dependent on "local factors" and it is not a verdict on the performance of the Narendra Modi government.

As per trends, the Congress is comfortably ahead of the ruling BJP in Chhattisgarh and has an edge in Rajasthan. Both parties were locked in a neck and neck race in Madhya Pradesh while the Congress appeared to be losing power in Mizoram to Mizo National Front.

"This is not a mandate against Narendra Modi-led government but it is due to the local factors that the results have come out this way," Naik, the MP from North Goa, told PTI over the phone from Delhi.

He also said that the anti-incumbency factor seems inevitable in states where governments have been in power for three-four terms.
