No Cong-AAP Tie-up in Haryana & Punjab, Decision on Delhi Soon

A decision about alliance in Delhi will be announced in the next couple of days, the Congress spokesperson said.

Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala on Sunday, 7 April, said that there will be no Congress-Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) alliance in Punjab and Haryana, and that they would announce the “situation” in Delhi over the next two days.

Earlier this week, reports suggested that the two parties have sealed an alliance, not just in Delhi but also in Haryana.

The AAP has reportedly been asking for the alliance to extend to Haryana and Punjab, where AAP is the principal opposition to the Congress government.

While Delhi has seven Lok Sabha seats, Haryana elects 10 members to the Parliament. Both Delhi and Haryana will go to polls on 12 May, while Punjab will vote on 19 May.

This comes two days after Congress President Rahul Gandhi said that his party was “open and flexible” to alliances nationally, ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.

Congress Promises Full Statehood to Delhi

The Congress has reportedly agreed to amend its manifesto and grant full statehood to Delhi, excluding the NDMC areas, if it comes to power.

Until full statehood becomes a reality, the Congress has agreed that the Delhi Lieutenant Governor will be an elected government nominee, sources said.
