The COVID-19-related restrictions in Maharashtra have been extended till 15 May, the state government announced on Thursday, 29 April, as the second wave of the pandemic continues to ravage the country.
Meanwhile, Bharat Biotech on Thursday announced a reduction in the price of its COVID-19 vaccine, Covaxin, for states from Rs 600 per dose to Rs 400.
India on Thursday reported 3,79,257 new COVID-19 cases, 3,645 deaths and 2,69,507 discharges, as per the Union Health Ministry. The death toll in the country now stands at 2,04,832. The country’s total number of cases now stands at 1,83,76,524.
A lockdown was imposed in Goa from 7 pm today till the morning of 3 May.
Essential services and industrial activities will be allowed, but public transport will remain shut. Casinos, hotels, pubs will also remain closed. Borders to remain open for essential service transportation.
Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray on Thursday, said, “All districts should immediately set up oxygen projects and ensure that stocks of essential medicines are maintained.”
He added, “Though the number of patients has stabilised to some extent, now we have to be very careful and plan for next third wave.”
Delhi reported 395 deaths, 24,235 new COVID-19 cases and 25,615 recoveries in the last 24 hours. Total active cases at 97,977.
Ladakh administration announced a 56-hour weekend curfew from 9 pm tomorrow to 5 am on Monday in Leh district.

Kerala reported 38,607 new COVID-19 cases and 48 deaths today. This is the highest single-day spike in cases in the state. The death toll has risen to 5,259. The total number of persons recovered is 12,44,301.
Delhi Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal sought a report from the Delhi Chief Secretary on Thursday, on the preparedness for the roll-out of the vaccination program for people above 18 years of age.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal after having a meeting with officials on the vaccination drive, announced, “Prepared a plan to vaccinate all above 18 years in the next 3 months. We will set up vaccination centres on a large scale. All eligible people must come forward to get vaccinated.”
The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) said that National Directives for COVID-19 management to continue to be strictly followed throughout the country. The MHA order to be effective till 31 May.
MHA announced that States/UTs had been advised by the Health Ministry to identify districts for containment measures.

In Uttar Pradesh, the weekend lockdown has been extended. It will now remain imposed from Friday 8 pm to 7 am on Tuesdays.
The Centre has allowed the import of 17 medical devices like oxygen canister, nebulizers to meet the rising demand during the pandemic.

The United States is sending supplies worth more than USD 100 million to India to help it fight a surge of COVID-19 cases, the White House said in a statement on Wednesday.
The supplies, which will begin arriving on Thursday and continue into next week, include 1,000 oxygen cylinders, 15 million N95 masks and 1 million rapid diagnostic tests, the statement said.
