India on Monday, 21 September, reported 86,961 new coronavirus cases, taking the tally in the country to 54,87,581. The death toll increased by 1,130 to 87,882. According to the Union Health Ministry data, there are currently 10,03,299 active cases across the country, while 43,96,399 patients have been discharged, and one had earlier migrated.

Globally, over 31 million cases of COVID-19 have been recorded so far, with the death toll standing at over 9,60,000.

Meanwhile, the Phase-III human clinical trial of the COVID-19 vaccine, being developed by Oxford University and manufactured by Serum Institute of India, has begun in Pune, an official was quoted by PTI as saying on Monday.

India's COVID Tally Reaches 54.87 Lakh

India's COVID-19 case tally reached 54,87,581 on Monday, 21 September, with a spike of 86,961 new cases and 1,130 deaths in the last 24 hours. Of these, 10,03,299 are active cases, 43,96,399 are cured/discharged/migrated and the death toll stands at 87,882, the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare said on Monday.

Lockdown Enforced in 10 Districts of Chhattisgarh

A lockdown was enforced on Monday in 10 districts of Chhattisgarh, including state capital Raipur, till September 28, amid a surge in coronavirus cases. Raipur, which has been reporting 900 to 1,000 daily cases, was declared a containment zone.
